Sonja M Salmon is a Caribbean banking executive with more than 20 years of financial services experience, including over 15 years leading teams across the region. As President & Chief Executive Officer of PROVEN Bank Limited, she holds overall responsibility for the Bank’s operations, with strategic direction, governance and regulatory standing among her core accountabilities.
Sonja brings a rare combination of risk, governance, operating and strategic experience. She previously served as Chief Risk Officer and General Counsel for HSBC in the Caribbean, with enterprise accountability for compliance, operational risk, internal controls and credit risk. She has held profit-and-loss responsibility across multiple markets at Sol Petroleum, and led mergers-and-acquisitions and strategy work at RBC Financial Group and the Canada Pension Plan Investment Board.
An accredited director of the Chartered Governance Institute of Canada, she holds an MBA, LLB, JD, and a BA, and is a qualified lawyer in Ontario and Bermuda. She has completed executive education at INSEAD and Harvard Business School.
Alongside that track record, Sonja brings a genuine, people-first approach and a strong commitment to the communities the Bank serves. She is an active member of the Cayman Islands community, giving her time to local youth development and volunteering with the National Gallery of the Cayman Islands.
